Rihanna, Chris Tucker, Viola Davis - weekly magazine roundup

As an avid subway rider I usually have about 40 minutes each day to read either  a magazine, book or newspaper. This week however was all about the magazines, Check out the top 3 stories that we are buzzing about this week:

Songstress Rihanna has a great spread in Glamour Magazine. The pictures in the glossy are super classy and feminine. It's a nice look for RiRi. When asked on the single from her album Rated R that never was, check out what she said below:

GLAMOUR: Now all these impressionable young girls are singing your songs. Which do you hope they’re singing?

RIHANNA: “Fire Bomb” is one of my favorite songs. It kills me that it was never a single. It’s not the most positive message; it’s just honest. It’s about wanting revenge, because you just feel like no one can understand what you’re feeling unless you burn them the way they burned you. And that was at a time when I didn’t really want to be angry but I couldn’t help it, and “Fire Bomb” [released in 2009] was like that therapeutic song for me

Firebomb was one of my favorite songs from that album but I don't know if I want young girls singing the lyrics to this song. Find it on YouTube and listen to the lyrics then tell me if you want a 13 year old singing along.

Funny man Chris Tucker is on the cover of weekly publication Jet Magazine. The article chronicles Chris's comeback to the stage as he hits the road doing stand up again. What I found interesting was him breaking his silence on the death of his pal King of Pop Micheal Jackson.

Out of respect for my friend and his family, I didn't think it was appropriate to comment because it wasn't about me: besides I was in mourning.  I loved him dearly and was truly blessed to have spent time with my idol and work with him. He was a modern day King. He used to call me Christmas, He'd say 'Christmas, you're pretty funny'. When I met him I barely heard a word he said because I just couldn't believe I was sitting in front of him.

There is a lot of Oscar buzz surrounding The Help actress Viola Davis. I read the book so I cant wait to check out the movie, hope it lives up to the hype. Stay tuned for my review. While reading the Essence spread I found out that Hattie McDaniel, Juanita Moore, Diahann Carroll, Alfre Woodard and Oprah Winfrey have all gotten nominations for playing domestics. Wouldn't that be something if Viola was nominated for playing a maid in 2011. Funny how things change but still remain the same.

Baseball star Matt Kemp spoke about his now ex girlfriend Rihanna in US Weekly Magazine. On bad blood between the exes, Matt says:

“No, not at all. We’ve all got busy lives and we’re working on our careers and concentrating on our careers. Like I said, I wish her all the best of luck and she wishes me all the best of luck.”

Cover queen Rihanna is on the cover of Australian Cleo Magazine showing off her fantastic figure in a revealing. This girl is always working, good for Ri-Ri!


Rihanna, real name Robyn Fenty, tells the monthly publication how she was a 'bitch'  to Russell Brand when she first met him. Brand is married to Rihanna's best friend Katy Perry. 

'I first met him when he was interviewing me on TV,' she says. 'I was sick and it was the worst interview I've ever done.

"I was throwing up in a bucket and a doctor gave me a shot in my butt. Nothing was funny to me.

I thought it was the most stupid f****** interview I ever did in my f****** life. "Why am I talking to this idiot? He made me want to throw up again"

"Then we did another interview on MTV and I realised he was funny. I was probably a complete bitch, but only months afterwards did I get it."

Funny stuff! And now Russell Brand and Katy Perry are a happily married couple. Kudos to them for lasting this long!

Rihanna performed last night on American Idol wearing a gorgeous gown and cascading red hair. Buzz from twitter was that Ri-Ri looked great but the singing was slightly off. No surprises there. What do you make of her look?

Rihanna reveals sexual fantasies in Rolling Stone

As I mentioned yesterday Rihanna and her barely there daisy dukes are on the cover of the Rolling Stone Magazine. Details are starting to leak on the interview and Rih revealed some interesting sexual fantasies.

In a totally spontaneous and honest way, Rihanna opens up to the publication about her most intimate secrets: "I love to be tied up and spanked ," she reveals.


"Using whips and chains is too planned... you have to stop and look for the whip. I prefer them to use their hands," she adds.  She also declares herself a masochist, something she confesses to not being very proud of, but which she attributes to the abuse she suffered as a child. Rihanna tells Rolling Stone she was just nine years old the first time she saw her father smoke crack: "I was always terrified on Friday because he could come home drunk. That was payday, and half of it went on alcohol," says the artist.

Did girlfriend just saying attribute her sexual prefernce to being abused as a child? Wow Rih..I have no words.

Rihanna covers Rolling Stone Magazine

Rihanna and her daisy dukes will  appear on the cover of the next issue of Rolling Stone, which will be on newsstands and online  on Friday April 1st. The magazine has been tight-lipped about the interview but plans to reveal details on Wednesday.

Rihanna to Interviewer: "You obviously want to talk about Chris Brown,I don't"

Rihanna is gracing the cover of Fabuolous Magazine which will be released in the UK this month. She openly discussed how she feels about her competition, what made her decide to dye her hair bright red and being uncomfortable as a “sex symbol”. She, however, was not as open when it came to discussing her ex-boyfriend

On being asked about Chris Brown:

Today, she’s not quite as forthcoming when the subject of Brown is broached. The mere mention of his name prompts a change in atmosphere and a sharp: “Excuse me?”
When asked again she snaps: “Next. You obviously want to talk about Chris Brown, I don’t.”

On being a sex symbol
Every time I hear that it’s definitely flattering, but also uncomfortable. That’s not a priority on my list – being a sex symbol or being overly sexy. I’m just a normal woman. I don’t really focus on being a sex symbol.

On why she dyed her hair red
I think I was ready for something new and loud and expressive. It’s really adventurous – I wanted something that was fun, you know. I didn’t want a normal hair color. I’d had blonde and it was so boring. Black is still my favorite, but I was looking for a color that was edgy. I guess it was just the place I was in at that time. I felt like being spontaneous, and I also wanted to go for something extreme. I couldn’t do green or purple or pink, so red was like the fine line between normal and extreme 

Rihanna says "absolutely not" to Bodyguard remake

Rihanna recently did an interview with OK Magazine and discussed rumors of her being in the Bodyguard remake. Asked if she would take on the leading role Rihanna replied, "absolutely not."

 

The Bajan singer 23, says ""I hate it when singers do singing movies all the time because you can never look at them as anybody else," she said. "I want to play a character. My whole life is playing Rihanna, being a singer won't be a stretch for me. I like challenges and being an actor is playing a role, being able to step into somebody else's shoes, that's the excitement," she said.

Welp, I guess the search continues for the lead. Who do you think should play the lead?

Jay-Z Worried About Rihanna's Deteriorating Health Due to Punishing Schedule

According to Look Magazine (as quoted by MTV UK), Jay-Z is worried that the 23-year-old is being overworked and that her current schedule is causing her health to deteriorate. "Rihanna's professional, works hard and stays away from drugs and alcohol, but Jay wants her to be careful," a source told the publication.

If you guys remember Ri-Ri had a bout with bronchitis at the NBA All Star Game last month and had the same ailment at the Grammys as well. Rihanna seems like she is always working, rest up Ri-Ri!

In other Rihanna news, did you hear about Minister Farrakhan calling Rihanna's performance filthy and saying that her fans are swine.

Farrakhan, who delivered his annual Savior's Day Speech near Chicago on Sunday (Feb. 27), blasted the pop star for her scantily clad style of dress and sexually suggestive dance moves, writing her off as "filthy" and calling her fans "swine," a term which he also reserved for gays and lesbians.

Not one to keep her mouth closed, Rihanna quickly responded to Farrakhan's rants. "A minister says I perform filthy,sat+watched the filth,then called u SWINE for doin the same! Haa, Is that judgment in ur tone?" she tweeted on Monday. "I certainly don't think u are swine! But a holy man of God does!!!"

Celeb beef on twitter Rihanna vs Ciara

For all 3 of you that care...twitter is blowing up right now with Ciara and Rihanna going in on each other.  The beef started with Ciara appearing on the fashion police saying that Rihanna wasnt so nice to her the last time they met. Hmmm this sounds pretty childish to me but check out the tweets from the celebs

Well drama on a Friday night huh? I hope these ladies make peace. The last they want to do is confuse their fan base with this silly drama. Makes for good gossip though :)

Rihanna VS LaChapelle: Can You Spot The Difference?

Rihanna is being sued by photographer Dave LaChapelle for using his work in her latest video S&M.
LaChapelle said Rihanna's video copied the 'composition, total concept, feel, tone, mood, theme, colours, props, settings, decors, wardrobe and lighting' of his work. He is suing for unspecified damages.

Chris Browns asks the judge to do what?

Chris Brown is back in court again.

This time around he is asking the judge to remove the restraining order against him for beating up Rihanna. His reasoning is that, the restraining order is a nuisance. Chris's attorney, Mark Geragos, said that the restraining order, "makes it difficult at award shows and such," (both are nominated for multiple Grammys) and pointed out that Brown had completed the required 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling, as well as 582 of his required 1400 hours community service, which he began by cleaning a horse stable.

Rihanna's "S&M" Music Video Pics Released

Rihanna is giving fans a glimpse of images from her latest music video "S&M" courtesy of Def Jam Records, she released the pics to Ryan Seacrest. Her music video was shot last week at a secret location in Los Angeles, California.

I am feeling both of these looks from Riri...yes even the big wild red hair. I think Rihanna can pretty much pull of any look but short hair is def the best on her. Thoughts??
