I love Michelle & Barack Obama. I love how the first couple is open with their relationship and they are not afraid to show emotion and be vulnerable in front of the world. .Barack Obama once said about Michelle “Sometimes, when we’re lying together, I look at her and I feel dizzy with the realization that here is another distinct person from me, who has memories, origins, thoughts, feelings that are different from my own. That tension between familiarity and mystery meshes something strong between us. Even if one builds a life together based on trust, attentiveness and mutual support, I think that it’s important that a partner continues to surprise.”
Here is my list of the top 5 things that we can stand to learn in the romance department from the First Couple
5. Make Yourself a Priority
Michelle Obama told Prevention Magazine - "I have freed myself to put me on the priority list and say, yes, I can make choices that make me happy, and it will ripple and benefit my kids, my husband, and my physical health. That’s hard for women to own; we’re not taught to do that. It’s a lesson that I want to teach my girls so they don’t wait for their "aha" moment until they’re in their 30s like I was (laughs). Maybe they can experience it a little earlier."
4. Try and get along with your mother in law:
You know that whole saying it takes a village to raise a child? The Obama's have proved it to be true by inviting Michelle Obama's Mom Marian Robinson to live with them and help take care of the children in the White House. "The girls are going to need her as part of their sense of stability,’ Michelle Obama told Newsweek magazine. So what's the lesson here: be nice to your significant others parents, you never know when you may them or..when they may need you.
3. Make Time For Romance:
I love how the Obama's go out for date night. Even after being together for 17 years, (they got married on October 18, 1992) they still make time for romance. I find this rule to be applicable even if you are married or still in the dating stages. Some couples get in the daily routine rut- meaning you get caught up in the craziness of everyday life, work or school that you don't make time to rekindle the romance. It's important to keep the fire lit by contuining to romance each other and ensure that you spend alone time with your mate. And ladies..dont let your man tell you he has no time, if the Prez can make time for date night so can your boo.
