Meet your new Miss USA 2012: Olivia Culpo PLUS Miss Maryland 2012 is South African?

I can't believe I missed the Miss USA pageant last night, you know I LIVE for a good pageant. Thank God for DVR though, I will watch the pageant as soon as I return to New York City. In any event congrats are in order for Miss Rhode Island USA Olivia Culpo. The 20 year old cellist was named Miss USA 2012 in a glitzy pageant in Las Vegas last night!

During the dreaded final question round, Olivia was faced with the most difficult question of the night: would it be fair for a person born a man to be named Miss Universe after becoming a woman? Olivia answered " I do think that would be fair, but I could understand how people could be apprehensive to take that road"

Kids, that how you answer a pageant question, play both sides of the field and don't offend anyone! Well done Liv!

My Mom's personal favorite was Miss Maryland Nana Meriweather who was born in South Africa and raised in Potomac, Maryland.

Nana is indeed beautiful! She came in second place and I'm sure this will not be the last we hear from her!
