Obama's on Oprah
So yesterday I was at home watching the Oprah Winfrey show and one of my favorite couple sat down for a chat with the queen of talk. President Barack Obama & First Lady Michelle Obama appeared on the show and discussed everything from their children, to future plans & marriage advice.
About their 18-year marriage, the first lady said that over the years she has learned that “it has to be a true partnership. And you have to really, really like and respect the person that you’re married to because it is a hard road.”
Not glossing over the realities of marriage, she said, “Melding two lives and trying to raise others and doing it forever, that’s a recipe made for disaster. So there are highs and lows.” She added that it takes more than love.
“When it gets hard, you need a little bit more,” said the first lady.
What great solid sound advice. I think sometimes people forget that marriage is an institution and that it truly It takes more than love to keep the marriage going. I like that she choose the word like, because you will always love your partner but really liking them is equally important. Thoughts?
