Deets on the Black Girls Rock! Africa Awards in 2016!

My name is Makho Ndlovu and I am a black *ahem* African girl who ROCKS!

I look forward to attending the Black Girls Rock! award show every single year so this news makes my heart flutter.

At last year's award show  (read my recap here) I was just a stone's throw away from FLOTUS Michelle Obama and I almost lost my mind when she proudly proclaimed Black Girls Rock onstage. When will your first lady ever!?! #WhatATimeToBeAlive. It was a such great moment.

So you understand my excitement at the Black Girls Rock! franchise heading to Africa right? Here's what's happening per the press release:

Beverly Bond, founder, CEO and executive producer of BLACK GIRLS ROCK! announced that she will soon bring her dynamic visionary women's empowerment movement to the African continent. The purpose of the BLACK GIRLS ROCK! AFRICATM platform is to recognize, support, and celebrate the diversity and dynamism of Black women in Africa and the African Diaspora," says Bond. "BLACK GIRLS ROCK! AFRICATM  will tap into our growing international market by illuminating the vibrant cultures and valiant narratives of our African sisters who are (s)heroes and trailblazers."

But wait there's more! BET Africa and Beverly Bond will not only bring the platform and community outreach to the continent but they will also develop a Pan-African Black Girls Rock! Award show to commemorate the ten year anniversary of Black Girls Rock! in 2016. AMAZING! Who would you like to see honored at the event? I immediately think of Lupita Nyong'o, Uzo Aduba, Terry Pheto or Khanyi Dhlomo.

The news was announced during the BET Experience this weekend at the Black Girls Rock! Empowerment Lounge. Sponsored by Revlon, there was a conversation was facilitated by Tanzanian model Millen Magese, our favorite red carpet slayer Bonang Matheba and the beautiful actress Nomzamo Mbatha,

Nomzamo is a beauty

Friends, I almost passed out from FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) this weekend. Ugggh I so wished I could have been there. Oh well, next time right?

As part of the exciting day, The BET Experience Festival concert featured a banging line up of African and African American artists - including Diamond, Mary J Blige, Maxwell, AKA, Raphael Saadiq and many more.

Did you go? How was it?

I will keep you guys posted on the Black Girls Rock! Awards show, I have a feeling it will be in South Africa but I can't confirm it yet. Can't wait!!!!
