African Stars Show Us 17 Cool Ways Style Our Natural Hair

As a naturalista, I am always searching the web for cool ways to style my natural hair. I usually do a two-strand twist out to give my hair definition and volume, but every now and then I get bored and try to switch it up.

There's sooooooo much one can do with natural hair, the possibilities are just endless. Let's take a look at how 17 African celebrities express themselves through their coifs!

South African VJ- Nomuzi Mabhena

Nomuzi's sassy close crop is stunning. You have to rock this look with confidence, this barely there hair is not for the wallflowers - it's super bold. Would you go this low?

Zimbabwean actress - Danai Gurira

If Nomuzi's look is a bit too low, you can go always follow Danai's suit and add a little bit of length.

Tanzanian model - Flaviana Matata

Or add a little more  height like my gorgeous gal pal Flaviana. She also had Nomuzi's super low look at one point and it looked great on her. That's the thing with natural hair, it grows super fast.

Singer Goapele 

Adding color is always a great option. Goapele's hue is very complementary to her skin tone, it looks great on her.

Sudanese model Nykhor Paul 

If all else fails, you can just throw on a scarf and keep it moving! Nykhor's colorful  accessory is a must have piece in every naturalista's closet.

Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong'o

If you have a TWA (teeny weeny afro) you could always throw in a little flower in your hair to give it a little flair and pizzaz. Tres chic!

South African singer LIRA

Lira's hair is the perfect length. When my hair was this long the maintenance on it was really easy. Just a simple wash and go. You just have to make sure your makeup is on fleek just like Miss Lira- all the focus is on your face so it's got to be on point!

Nigerian actress Genevieve Nnaji

My hair is Genevieve's length right now but I don't have color in it like she does. I love the depth and dimension to her hair as well. It looks a bit longer in the front with the back being a wee bit shorter to give us that bob effect. I am feeling this!

South African singer Simphiwe Danan

A protective style is an awesome way to keep your hair nice and tucked away without causing daily damage. Simphiwe's hair frames her face so beautifully, I adore this look on her!

Adding colors to your locs is always a great idea, just make sure you moisturize and take care of your hair. Claire's locs are FLAWLESS!

Now if you don't want to do a wig or weave as a protective style, braids are a great option. Just make sure your scalp, hair and edges are moisturized. I am on #TeamEdgesAllTheWay, I have seen way too many women lose their edges over braids. It's not worth it. I really love Nandi's braids, she's such a beauty!!

This is another example of color being used perfectly. Steph's neat  and tidy braids are also funky because of the color. Talk about a perfect juxtaposition

How you wear your hair is ultimately up to you. It really doesn't matter how you rock it but just make sure you take good care of it. Using the right products is key- find out what works for you and stick with it!
