Day 14 of not eating meat and drinking alcohol, here's how I'm doing.....

Allow me to be painfully honest. I used to cast a lot of judgement towards vegetarians and vegans. You know the type- super picky about what they eat and constantly trying to convince you (a meat eater) about the benefits of not eating meat. Gag!

In my mind - a meal is just not complete without meat! Who does that? So for the longest time I just could not fathom the idea of a sane individual deliberately skipping out on all this here deliciousness. Craziness!

Well baby, one thing about them tables- they always turn!

Fast forward to today Jan 14, 2015 and I am no longer eating meat. Gasp! The horror of it all! So how did I get here? For one I love challenging myself and after dinner late last year with a really close friend, we (my fiance, friend and I) decided that in the new year we would all try to live a little healthier and that meant for us, unfortunately breaking up with meat.

And on a more personal note,  I stepped on the scale recently and quite frankly the number mortified me. I wasn't sure if I was looking at someone's social security number or a price tag. That number hit me like a ton of bricks! I have a huge life event coming up soon so it's really important that I put my best foot forward, so that means shedding the excess weight.

Now I am not naive, I know that the key to long term weight loss is not only eating right but also coupling my diet with exercise. It gets challenging to head to the gym when it's incredibly cold and snowy outside but the winter will not be my undoing. I will hit my target weight.

Today marks Day 14 and I feel great! Honestly I don't miss meat or alcohol as much as I thought I would. The benefits of a plant based diet are just endless so it helps in keeping me motivated. I eat a lot of vegetables, fruits, beans, tofu and other stuff I would have normally skipped out on. I don't plan on doing this forever, I will be going back to my meat eating and dranking ways at the end of the month. But so far I have lost 4lbs, and feel better than I have in a long LONG time. Cheers to that!

I will post another recap at the end of the month! Would you ever consider cutting out meat and alcohol for a month or even longer?
