Hollywood's NEWEST it girl is from Kenya!


Get familiar with Lupita Nyong'o! The Kenyan actress is getting tons of press & acclaim for her role in soon to be Hollywood blockbuster.

"12 Years a Slave" is a 2013 historical drama film based on the autobiography Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup. Based partly on a true story and directed by Steve McQueen the film follows a free black man who was unjustly kidnapped and sold into slavery. 


The movie stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Brad PittMichael FassbenderQuvenzhané Wallis Alfre Woodard, and newcomer Lupita Nyong’o.


The Mexican-born Kenyan actress plays the supporting role, Patsey, a slave who is both the object of affection and cruelty of Master Eppin. Before starring in McQueen's film, the Yale graduate starred in the Kenyan MTV 2008 television series Shuga and wrote, directed and produced In My Genes, a 2009 documentary on the treatment of Kenya's albinoism community.


The the movie is getting rave reviews and of course lots of Oscar buzz! Sounds brilliant- can't wait to see it! "12 Years a Slave" premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on August 30, 2013 and the film is slated to be commercially released on October 18, 2013.
