Stepping into Nollywood: Vivica Fox & Isaiah Washington take a chance

Did you know that Nigeria's film industry known as Nollywood is the third largest film-making industry in the world in terms of revenue? Notwithstanding the sometimes cringe-worthy story lines, piss poor production and awful acting, the industry  produces more than 1,000 titles a year. So in effort to improve the quality, Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan pledged in 2010 to create $200 million loan fund to help finance film projects.

Dr. Bello is a Nollywood movie and the first of it's kind

One of the first films  that has benefited from this deal was premiered in New York City last month. In an attempt to up the star factor and merge Nollywood/ Hollywood the flick stars Isaiah Washington, Vivica Fox and Nollywood A-listers such Genevieve Nnaji and Stephanie Okereke. This is stating the obvious but to say the film has a lot of weight on it's shoulders, could possibly be the understatement of the year. Are audiences in Nollywood and Hollywood ready for this type of marriage?
