Miss Universe talks Black History Month

Makho with Miss Universe
A few weeks ago, I sat with Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes and talked at length about a number of topics (you can read the full interview in South Africa's Loocha Magazine March issue. Here's a sneak peak of some of what we discussed in the Loocha Magazine interview:

Tell me about the girls at the pageant, they are some of the most beautiful girls in the Universe. Are they catty?
Well, (Laughs) some girls are very competitive; they try and do anything to make you feel bad. During preliminaries, one girl said to me “You look like a doll” and I replied “Thank you”. And the girl continued “You look like a Barbie that I used to play with and I used to break her legs” Not missing a beat, I said to her “You look like a Barbie that I used to play with as well and I used to break her neck”.

SIDE-NOTE: Isn't that hilarious? Don't you just love her comeback?? That's my kinda Miss Universe!!

One of the subjects we discussed in the interview was the importance of black history month. As you know Leila is from Angola but peep the video below and find out why Leila thinks black history month is important.
