Magazine Review- Beyonce in Essence Magazine

I am a huge Beyonce fan! I have been a stan at times since the Destiny's Child days when the group came out with the hit video and single for "No, no, no". I have followed B's career from then till now so you can only imagine my sheer joy at seeing the queen of r&b pop, on the cover of July issue Essence Magazine.

Listen, I have to be frank. I wasn't fond of the cover with B in her signature blond hair and dark eyebrows. I have to admit that's not my thing. But you have to be a bad chick to pull that look off and look as stupendous as Mrs. Carter. I said I was a stan right? Moving forward...

The article had tons of glossy images accompanying the words penned by the award winning songwriter, singer, and performer. I loved to see the less dressed up version of B. Remember at the Billboard Awards when she gave that amazing acceptance speech honoring the original member of Destiny's Child? This was another chance to see a different side of the reclusive singer

B, talks about taking a year long break from her very hectic life. She professes that the break ended up being more like 9 months but that she was grateful for "new experiences to draw on". The "Single Ladies"  singer describes that during her 9 month break she visited countries without an itinerary, picked up her nephew Juelz from school, and went undercover in Japan as a Harajuku girl. Beyonce talks about how this break gave her "time to breathe, to relax and to be inspired" She says that felt refreshed, renewed and empowered to revaluate her life and do things that will make a difference.

I was pleasantly surprised that Beyonce spoke so highly of her momma Tina Knowles. She says of Mama Knowles "she worked hard, but found time to go on vacations, spend time with Solange, go to concerts and dinners. Plus she always looked amazing" I found it peculiar that in the entire spread there was no mention of her Beyonce's dad Matthew Knowles. As you may know the singer parted ways  professionally with her father and now has a new team managing her career.  I have no doubt that she loves her Dad, I just found that omission a bit strange...

My honest opinion is that I enjoyed the article throughly. Kudos to Essence for giving Bey the reins to write in her own words. Make sure you go cop Beyonce's new album 4, when it hits stores on June 28. You won't regret it!

On a slightly funny note doesn't that look like Jay-Z in the background of the picture above? I know it's not him but the similarity is just uncanny. No? And Beyonce's thighs look slammin, go head then B. I digress..

Did you read the article? Let me know what your thoughts are. There is plenty more that I didn't speak of that's covered in the article so make sure you pick up this Essence July issue on newstands now.
