What's Going on in Egypt?

Do you know what's happening in Egypt? I had an understanding that there was turmoil based on the headlines but could I speak intelligently about it? No. So if you are in the same boat as me, check out the brief bullet points below to get you up to speed on what's happening.

- After what happened in Tunisia, the Egyptian people were inspired to revolt against their government. They are protesting poverty, rampant unemployment, government corruption and autocratic governance of President Hosni Mubarak, who has ruled the country for thirty years.

-The large protests are unprecedented in Egypt so the government is taking drastic measures to ensure that people are not able to plan protests or even have any minimal communication methods. They have blocked twitter, Facebook and most recently blocked the Internet from the entire country.

-President Hosni Mubarak appeared on state television to announce that while he would be dismissing the government, he would not resign. Sometimes you just have to know when to walk away.

I am praying for peace in Egypt and a swift end to the bloodshed.
