Bill Clinton's plane makes an emergency landing in Tanzania

So glad everyone is okay.

Via CBS
"A plane carrying former President Bill Clinton had to make an emergency landing in Tanzania Wednesday after one of the four engines on his plane stopped working, CBS News has learned.

Clinton was traveling in the East African nation to visit projects that have been funded by his family's foundation. The plane made an emergency landing at the Dodoma fueling station, where the engine had to be fixed.

The plane was a Canadian turboprop Dash 7, traveling from Iranga, a city in the center of Tanzania, to Lake Manyara, which is in the north."

Details are still developing, I will keep you guys posted.

The Former President and his daughter Chelsea started their tour on Wednesday where they will visit projects funded by his foundation to boost agriculture, health, education and wildlife conservation.

In addition to Tanzania, Clinton and his daughter Chelsea will also visit Kenya, Liberia and Morocco.

9 Gorgeous bridesmaid dresses from Nigerian label Peridot & Ruby

While looking for inspiration for bridesmaids dresses, I came across Peridot & Ruby and it was love at first sight.

How stunning are these gowns?

In a 2010 interview with BellaNaija.com, one of the founder's of the line discussed their company origins.

" ‘Something Peridot’ had been in the works since 2007 with real brides including Abisoye Olorunnimbe, Banke Meshida-Lawal, Abisola Odeinde, Bella Disu and Mayowa Fabode patronizing the company, it wasn’t until  Peridot & Ruby founder, Lola Abiodun-Ashafa’s wedding (where she dared to be different and designed her bridesmaids dresses in black) that she decided to birth a sister company to Peridot and Ruby and cater to the wedding bridal party."

Did you know that the wedding industry in the US is valued at 53 billion dollars? Getting married is not cheap!

Nigeria is well on it's way...remember that Forbes article that detailed how much Nigerian couples spend on weddings.  It's one of the fastest growing markets in the country.
Now this was my personal fave. This wedding was in Cape Town earlier this year and I just loved the color on the bridesmaids.

Meet the New Miss World Zimbabwe

Miss World Zimbabwe Emily Katanga Kachote, sitting pretty next to  first princess Ann-Grace Mutambu (left) and second princess Chengetai Kanonhuwa

Miss Zimbabwe World 2015 is Emily Katang Kachote, a 25 year old financial advisor from Harare.

The leggy beauty beat out 15 other contestant to nab the much coveted title. Her win of course gives her a lot of bragging rights and a slot at the Miss World Finals being held later on this year.

This was Emily's second attempt at the crown,  speaking on her failed 2012 bid she told reporters after the dazzling event in Mermaids Pool in Shamva:

“I came here believing. There was no point coming with the belief that someone else was going to take the crown. I knew I would be the queen, even before I was in camp, I went home (after 2012 finals) and I asked myself many questions, If you believe you want something, never apologize for it; just go for it.”

Just go for it indeed! Congrats Lady!!

The Glamorous Life with Vimbai Mutinhiri

The former "Big Brother Africa" contestant and current TV presenter tells us what keeps her looking gorgeous! Let's get into this week's profile of the Glamorous Life

1) Describe your rules for dressing on the red carpet? How do you select your outfits?
I think simplicity is everything - I always choose something elegant and timeless. I don't want to look back at the pictures in 5 years and cringe!

2) Do you have any past beauty faux pas that you regret?
I have too many to mention! lol. Lets just say I have learnt my lesson about not photographing my make up in unflattering light before heading out - you never know what lighting to expect at an event so be prepared for it to be terrible and you will look flawless no matter what.

3) What's the best beauty advice you've ever gotten?
It was very simple: never sleep with make up on and HYDRATE!

4) What's your favorite place(s) in the world  to visit?
Definitely Zanzibar! I'm a real island girl.

5) Walk us through a typical day in your life
My alarm goes off at 5:30, I meditate then catch up on news and social media updates, then shower and quick breakfast. I usually get to the office and attend to my emails before getting into hair and make up and doing my shoots for the day. Depending on the day and what's on the cards - that could take me to about 6pm. I then approve episodes of my show for broadcast, hit the gym and pass out on my couch!!

6) Who is your beauty icon?
Definitely Naomi Campbell. Unbelievably flawless!

7) What's your life philosophy?
I have so many! In this moment I am teaching myself to put myself first and to be fair to myself - I always pursue the good in people and by all means try to give the best of myself at all times. In doing this its easy to neglect yourself. So for now, Vimbai is feeding her soul.

8) When do you feel the most beautiful?
After I wash off my make up at night after a long successful day. Accomplishment is so sexy!

9) What's your fitness regimen?
I do tons of bikram yoga and I like to take walks and runs outdoors.

10) What new projects are you working on?
So excited about a brand new travel project in partnership with South African Tourism where I have had the opportunity to take African celebs on holiday in South Africa and we've tried some insane adrenalin filled activities. It will hit your screens on Africa Magic on, and the rest of the world will get to enjoy it at the end of the year!

Make sure to keep up with Vimbai  as she continues to conquer the world. Follow her on Twitter to see what she's up to!

What was it like for this Nigerian artist to meet Jay-Z? 7 Things I learned from Ice Prince's Power 105 interview

Last week,  one of the most biggest artist to come out of Africa -  Ice Prince stopped by POWER 105 in New York  for an interesting interview. The Nigerian artist dished on a number of topics ranging from his meeting with Jay Z, potentially working with Roc Nation and much more with the popular morning show team.

Check out the highlights from the interview....

Who would compare himself to in the States
I hate to do that, I hate to come up with those scenarios. I would say the Ice Prince of the world. It's hard for me to put myself with someone out here.

Radio host Charlemagne said that an industry executive noted Ice is more like  the "Drake or Kendrick.." of Africa

What's his relationship with Roc Nation?
We have a very healthy relationship. We are in talks, we are having serious conversations

Meeting with Jay-Z last week
I met up with Hov and it was the moment of my life.... meeting such an idol. It was in New York here at the Roc Nation office. Bee High (Jay Z's cousin and Roc Nation executive)  brought me to the office and introduced me to Jay and told him who I was. It was a very decent conversation. And he said to me that I am a 'great man' and that is something that I will never forget. It was quite interesting.

On breaking through in America
America is starting to open up to other genres of music. I see reggae music poppin out here and that's dope. I see some of the UK artists are popping out here and that's dope. I think Africans need to get that ear too.

On working with Wale
I have done a record with him before, he is a big dog that holds us down out here. He's been repping for a long time

On leaving Nigeria to get more recognition
I have never had to leave. I still live in Nigeria, I just travel a lot. Because Nigerian music has gotten to a point where it's really blown now. It's a huge market. Artists are startling to make a lot of money from the business. There are a lot more corporations getting involved, so the market is getting bigger every day. .......

It seems you guys (artist) support each other in Nigeria, is it really all love?
Hell yeah it's all love. We love to see each other successful. So if Meek Mill throws a tweet at Davido the whole of Nigeria is excited about it

Check out the whole interview below where Ice discusses his upbringing, Boko Haram and why travels with such a huge security detail!

#MCM: Exclusive Interview with Arthur Evans

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Arthur Evans, Zimbabwe’s Acing Voice

I recently wrote a cool piece on this Zimbabwean MC/Entrepreneur. In between his journey on SABC 3’s Presenter Search, being a father and husband, we managed to squeeze sometime to quickly chat on life in general. We talk Passion, Xenophobia, the future and acing it.

Gilmore Tee: The young Arthur Evans dreamt of ….
Arthur: … being a great architect or a world soccer star. I believed that great things were in store for me. I'm still gripped by infrastructural design and I am a Manchester United fan.

Gilmore Tee: Fast forwarding a few years later, how far or close are your dreams from when you were young?

Arthur: I am still far from where I want to be on the international stage. I feel that I am ready for the global stage as I have working hard at refining my gift.

Gilmore Tee: You made it all the way to the Top 30 of SABC 3s Presenter Search out of thousands of potentials, what drove you to enter?

Arthur: My wife told me about it and for two weeks she insisted that I enter but I ignored her thinking that although I had what it took, it was a far shot.  As much as it is not common in my life, I had negative train of thoughts. It's only when two random friends messaged me and told me that I should enter did I realise that perhaps there was a greater power behind this and I still think that God is working something out for me. It’s only after three weeks that I finally submitted my entry form.

Gilmore Tee: I would like to know the journey on Presenter search, from when you decided to apply and making the Top 30.
Arthur: After applying I began putting extra effort at the gym, just in case the judges wanted to see a six pack which they often are curious about but not bent on finding. About three weeks before the audition I prepared my link. On Saturday the 7th of March I got to Bidvest Wanderers Cricket Stadium at about 6am and then only went to the first audition 8.5 hours later.  I had great company in the form of my newest friends, Tumi, Candice, Danny, Ziphozakhe and Busi - we call ourselves the originals. I went straight through to the first two camera rounds and then had to wait for TWO DAYS to get confirmation that I had made it to the "call-backs" where the Joburg Top 9 were chosen. I actually slipped in my link, but I managed to fill in and finish strong. The end is not shown online but my recovery is, you have to look closely though.

Gilmore Tee: You are very popular with the ladies, do you think your charming being contributed to your journey in the competition or?
Arthur: Huh, thank you. I wish that was the case but in the first audition I had to present to three male judges, that was maybe the hardest stages of them all. They were very impressed and advanced me to the camera round. In general, good looks don't help always; it is not like people will be falling by the wayside. LOL

Gilmore Tee: How do you feel about the journey you have travelled so far?
Arthur: I am so excited because I was part of approximately 0.06% of people that got to the stage I got to. The interest in me is also great and regional bookings are on the cards. I'm not down in the dumps but instead I am extremely excited about my future as an MC, TV host and voice over artist, more than ever before.

Gilmore Tee: Working with Jeannie D and Bonang Matheba, you gotta share that experience with us.
Arthur: They are extremely professional but down to earth and they all have great humour. They are all business when on the job and beyond the official meetings we were not allowed access to them. Jeannie D is the best of everything, Phat Joe is no joke, and Bonang arrests you with her gaze.

Gilmore Tee: Seeing that you are no more in the running on Presenter Search, who are you rooting for & why?
Arthur: The 'Jozi Family' members of course - I am especially proud of Leon's growth. Mishka is a class act and Sanda is exceptionally talented and I think he would be a great Expresso addition. All the 11 finalists, they have a difficult period ahead of them but it will be worth it.

Gilmore Tee: You are not new in the hosting and TV presenting, what did you pick from the competition & where are you headed from here?
Arthur: The level of professionalism is incredible and I have raised my personal bar as a result. From here new horizons and challenges await. I have nothing concrete yet but I will be flying the Zimbabwean and African banner higher, whatever happens.

Gilmore Tee: I am a young person, watching every step you have been taking, what would you want me to grasp from you?
Arthur: Set high standards for yourself. Until you reach your benchmark goals don't be satisfied. Pursue it with humility, passion, take criticism and don't let praise make you complacent. I am my biggest fan AND biggest critic - do the same!

Gilmore Tee: Where will you be acing it in 5 years from now?
Arthur: A household name with an international presence and being considered to host my biggest event ever, an international awards show.

Gilmore Tee: The world …
Arthur: … needs your gift/talent so nurture it relentlessly and with passion. The world will gladly pull you down, spit in your face and celebrate you like nothing happened but thankfully its redeeming grace is that the world is always changing. As it changes, find your niche and ACE it so that we can say....#YouACEdit

Gilmore Tee: Africa is…
Arthur: … NOT THE DARK CONTINENT! We have switched on the lights and we're getting brighter. We are an unstoppable force that cannot be avoided. Africa is the home of the modern pioneer, entrepreneur, global star and above all hope to its people.

Gilmore Tee: My strength comes from …
Arthur: … past hurts, positive outlook, lack in the past and most of all an amazing support base - thank you to all my family and close friends. A special thank you to everyone that has supported me during the Presenter Search and before - you keep me going, hoping and believing.

Gilmore Tee: Xenophobia is …
Arthur: … a lie within itself and mirrors racism. We cannot become the things that we hate and xenophobia is a trap for that. Is must stop - "You cannot solve a problem at same level at which it was created" - Albert Einstein.

You can get hold of me on …

The Glamorous Life With Osas Ighodaro

Nigerian-American ingénue Osas Ighodaro is more than just a pretty face, she is the true embodiment of beauty AND brains. For this week's edition of the Glamorous Life we chat with the actress, model and presenter on all things beauty, style and travel.

1.) Describe your rules for dressing on the red carpet? How do you select your outfits?
My rules for the red carpet is to always keep it comfortable and classy. I collaborate with my stylist, Yummie (@s_b_youme) who is always on point with keeping my look fashion forward. I love trying new things but the ultimate fashion rule for me is to keep it comfortable. For me keeping it that way helps exude my true confidence.

2.) Do you have any past beauty faux pas that you regret?
I do actually. It's important to make sure you and/or your makeup artist knows your skin type - all the time. My skin tone changes between seasons and there was a time when I was photographed with my makeup much darker then the rest of my body. It looks quite interesting to but certainly lesson learned.

3.) What's the best beauty advice that you've ever gotten?
The best beauty advice is to keep my makeup as clean and simple as possible. It allows a woman's true beauty to shine through. Love that advice.

4.) What's your favorite place in the world to visit?
I actually love to travel! I'm excited to be working on a project that will allow me to do that. I love experiencing other cultures and thus far the Caribbean has been my favorite place to travel to.

5.) Walk us through a typical day in your life?
Ha! Well, I'm fortunate enough to live in both Nigeria and New York. When in Nigeria, my typical day would encompass meetings, filming on set, running errands, attending  industry events, spending some time in Lagos traffic (lol), attending church and finally coming home. My life in Nigeria is quite busy. In New York, it's a bit more calm. Spend time with family and friends, running errands, attending church and finally home sweet home.

6.) Who is your beauty icon?
I don't have one beauty icon - I have a few. I absolutely love Halle Berry, Rihanna and Tyra Banks.

7.) What is your life philosophy?
I have a motto / life philosophy I live my life by: "If you believe it, and your heart conceives it, then you can surely achieve it.

8.) When do you feel most beautiful?
I feel most beautiful when I'm happy. It's a bit of a clichĂ© it works for me; always.

9.) What's your fitness regimen?
I'm not a gym / running type of person. I love being active by dancing and doing aerobics. If it's fun then I'm all in. Drinking water and of course keeping a healthy diet helps keep me fit as well.

10.) What new projects are you working on?
I'm excited about the new projects I'm working on. I have some great work coming up with my foundation (Joyful Joy Foundation). I have a few film projects and a travel show in the works as well. I also have some brand ambassador work soon to be revealed. I'm very excited and thankful for the blessings.

Zimbabwe's own Arthur Evans in SABC3's Presenter Search

The only ACE in the pack: Arthur Evans up for SABC 3s, Presenter Search

I always get excited if someone I  know gets to ace it and stand out. Arthur Evans, the incredible Entrepreneur/MC from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe is no exception. The former 2002 Head Boy of Christian Brother College, now head hunted Master of Ceremony and Entrepreneur is in the Top 30 of South Africa Broadcasting Corporation – SABC 3, reality TV Show, Presenter Search. With thousands of potential presenters coming through from all parts of South Africa, the Bulawayo born managed to sail through the Top 30, alongside former Miss South Africa Ziphozakhe Zokufa who is also running for the top position.

The impeccable speaker and host is also Zimbabwe’s Supermodel who has hosted a multitude of events from your corporate events to the African Union Region 5 Youth Games live draw on TV, reading the news on ZBC TV for a stint and hosting hordes of public events.  One would think that Arthur received some training from some top notch presenting school overseas, but the Bulawayo Boy has grown his skill by sheer determination and sincerity.

Despite making numerous mistakes in his early days as an MC, Arthur discovered that this was where his heart was and constantly tried to improve on his presentations.
“I am my biggest fan, but I also criticise myself a lot. I believe that every speaking appointment is about adding value for others and not about me.” – Arthur Evans

He will soon be joining his father’s construction company and in July this year, he foresees enrolling for an MBA programme. Above all, I must indicate that he is happily married to Lorna and they have a beautiful daughter called Jessica. So ladies, if your claws were out, please do draw them back.

Through following his passion and the love to bring lots of smiles on people faces, Arthur is one of the Top 30 of South Africa’s premier reality TV show, Presenter Search on SABC 3, which airs every Friday at 19:30hours. The show has the gorg Bonang Matheba, Jeannie D and Outrageous Phat Joe, as some of the judges.

A man who sees himself travelling the world with one foot in South Africa and the other in Zimbabwe as an Entrepreneur, the BIG question is, will Arthur WIN? I am rooting for him to WIN as he deserves everything good that will come his way. One fact will always remain true, there are many cards in the pack but there is only one ACE in the pack, thus Arthur Evans

Africans Stay Winning: Somalian Teen Accepted Into 8 Ivy League Schools!

Here's another young African teenager that made us proud this week.

While we are still celebrating the news of Nigerian born student Harold Ekeh being accepted into 8 Ivy League colleges we now have word that there's even more reason to be proud.

Meet Munira Khalif, a 17 year old senior at Mounds Park Academy in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The daughter of Somali immigrants was accepted into eight Ivy League Schools -Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Yale, Princeton and the University of Pennsylvania. She was also accepted to Stanford, Georgetown and the University of Minnesota.

Yaaaaas young East African girl, we are so happy for you!

Munira is the founder of Lighting the Way an organization dedicated to improving access to education for East African youth.

"You're not accepted because of a score you're accepted because of the person that you are," she told an NBC affiliate.

I wonder which school she will end up choosing, congrats Munira the world is your oyster!

You Know You Come From An African Family If.... .

Even though it can seem like we are so vastly different, the truth is there are so many ties that bind us as African people. Regardless of where you are from in the continent, I am sure you can relate to this list.

This how you know you come from an African family...

  • You always have cousins/aunts/uncles staying with your family at random times

  • If you are above the age of 25 and can still CATCH it from your Mama

  • You go to the rural areas during the holidays

  • When you say “I love you” to your parents and they say thank you or they don't know what to say

  • There are certain meals that just don't taste good unless you eat them your hands

  • Babies being carried on their mama's back is NBD (no big deal)

  • You have that one Uncle that either drinks too much or is a little creepy or a combination of both

  • Every adult older than you is Auntie or Uncle

  • The subject of sex means male and female in your household. The birds and bees are never discussed but yet there babies popping up left, right and center

  • When you get married and you don't know half the people at your wedding. "You get an invite, you get invite, everyone get's an invite.."

Did I miss anything? I am sure there are so many things you can do this list...
