Bring Our Girls Back!

Over 200 female secondary school students were abducted from their boarding school by a group of people who are believed to be a part of the Boko Haram sect in Chibok, NorthEastern, Nigeria.

In recent years, countries which have experienced insurgencies, wars, conflicts and internal turbulence, record that the most devastating impacts of these crises are experienced by children, girls and young women who are left vulnerable to extensive attacks and dehumanizing conditions.

The abducted young girls are being affected by a conflict they did not create, and their voices need to be heard. It can only be imagined what they have undergone in these past weeks or what they are bring subjected to at hand.

Please join us on Saturday, May 3rd, 2014 in Union Square for a prayer and to bring awareness so that this situation can be given the right level of coverage in international media. These 234 girls need to be found and returned to the safety of their families and homes.

KINDLY SPREAD THE WORD!!

Signs and Posters are WELCOME!!

RHOA's Porsha Williams finally breaks her silence on the fight "I had regrets immediately after"

RHOA Porsha Williams is finally have her turn to speak out about the hair weave pulling incident with Kenya Moore.
As you may recall, in last week's reunion episode Porsha leapt up to attack Keny- after the former beauty queen pulled out a bull horn and yelled in P's face. My take is that they were both wrong. If they fire Porsha, Kenya should get fired too.

In a taped interview with Acccess Hollywood (that airs today) this what P says lead her to fight Kenya:

Interview Highlights:

“I had regrets immediately after. It didn’t take for me to get home to watch it. It was–as soon as it happened and I opened my eyes, I realized what had happened and to just walk you through it from the beginning to the end. We have to go back further than just the reunion…”

“I see the wand so I’m sitting there this is a wand, what is she about to do with that. Then I realize she’s using it as an extension of her arm, so I’m like ok cool as long as she doesn’t bring it over here, I’m fine. I saw the hate. I saw the anger. I saw all of that in Kenya’s eye that moment. And I felt threatened, honestly I did, it was a weapon.”

“When I’m in front of the camera, I wanna act, but then once the camera’s on I’m Porsha…But for Kenya, she looks at this as a job. It’s a show to her; it’s just entertainment. So she doesn’t take anything seriously…And so for her I’m like the complete opposite because here I am living this real life and here she is portraying one.”

“It’s not about team Porsha. It’s about team truth it’s about team what’s right and for me I don’t want people just to be like oh team Porsha, that’s great and I appreciate the love but understand the deeper thing that’s going on here, it’s bullying. Bullying can happen as an adult it can happen as a child in college on your work place everywhere.”

Hmm I see what Porsha's doing there, are we angling for an anti bullying gig? Well played P.

The 'Flatline' singer will be on the View tomm, let's see what else she has to say. After hearing Porsha's side whose side are you on? Team Porsha or Team Kenya?

Singer Erkyah Badu performs in Swaziland & catches a lot of heat, should she have gone?

Listen, Miss Badu is a growwwwwn woman, so she can do whatever she wants.
However many human rights activists are crying foul over Miss Badu going to sing for King Mswati. Citing alleged human rights abuses, media oppression & many other issues folks feel that Erkyah shouldn't have gone to sing for the King. Here are some tweets I saw:

This so tricky! According to the Swazi Observer news reports:

'She was brought to the country courtesy of Jacob Arabo, commonly known as Jacob the Jeweller as a gift to His Majesty for his 46th birthday. Badu was first spotted amongst the crowd and was met with excitement as she mingled and even took a trip to the bathroom. People whispered amongst themselves wondering if it was indeed her or a look alike, although her name was listed under the main entertainers of the night on the programme.

After she was introduced to the stage, she expressed how happy she was to be in the country to perform before Their Majesties. She had guests in stitches when she said the first time she was in the country in 2002 there were a number of women who were dancing in a ‘forest’. “I am so happy to be in the country, this is my second time in Swaziland and the last time I was here there were a lot of women dancing in a forest. I love being in Swaziland. I dedicate this first song to sons of Kings,” she said before performing.

Between her performance she also commented on His Majesty’s family, saying it looked like a healthy family and was an inspiration to everyone to maintain good relationships within their families'

Guys, how many wives does King Mswati have? It seems like they all get along (seems being the key word) but maybe Erykah saw something I didn't see.

Honestly I'm on the fence with this one. What do you think? Should she have gone to sing happy birthday for the King!?

Update Miss E has responded, here's what she said via Twitter:

Very very interesting! Would be curious to know how this trip came about..hopefully Erykah sheds more light later..I agree 149 characters is not enough to explain her point of view.

Pics: Nelson Mandela Film Festival launch in NYC!

Last night, on a windy NYC day I had the pleasure of attending the pre-launch of the Nelson Mandela Film Festival.

His Royal Highness, Nkosi Zwelivelile (Mandla), chairperson of the Mandela International Film Festival and grandson of the late Nelson Mandela was on hand to discuss the festival & the importance of telling the AfriCAN story.

He gave a great speech about his beloved grandfather & guys we were all enthralled. The heir to the throne knows his stuff, can you imagine dating back your history from the 16th century? He recited all his forefathers with no hesitation, it was great to see!

That's why it's so important that we not only document but share our story with the world!
The chief's speech was so great, everyone was tuned in & present. Just soaking it up!

I really enjoyed the wine too. It was by African House...yummy!

Guests of the launch also got an opportunity to sign this huge mural of Madiba that will be displayed at the festival

This is such a cool initiative. They did the launch to coincide with the TriBeCa Film Festival currently happening in NYC. They are serious about selling SA as a destination hub for film & TV production!
I had a great time! The festival will take place from December 3-12 2015 in Port Elizabeth and is expected to be the biggest film festival in the southern hemisphere. The Eastern Cape Government and the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency are backing the project.
