Quote of the day: Karl Lagerfeld doesn't like Pippa's face

When keeping it real goes wrong!

Designer Karl Lagerfield was recently interviewed about Kate Middleton but the conversation took a sharp and ugly turn after Pippa's name was bought up. The Sun reports that Uncle Karl, 78, started out with kind words for Kate saying:

"I like that kind of woman, I like romantic beauties. On the other hand, her sister struggles. I don't like the sister's face. She should only show her back."

Ouch! Now dem is fighting words. Although secretly I kinda agree. Very mean girls of me right? Lol sorry just being honest!

Actress Garcelle Beauvis speaks out on husband's cheating "Adultery is the ultimate deal-breaker for me"

In an extremely open and honest blog post on People Magazine's site actress Garcelle Beauvais finally opens up about the earth shattering infidelity that rocked her entire world.

The Haitian born beauty writes "You see, I thought I had won the lotto in husbands. Caring? Check. Attentive? Check. Loyal? Well, un-check"

Unfortunately for Garcelle her fairylike romance ended in 2010 after discovering a text message from her husband's lover. In an act of anger and revenge the former NYPD actress sent out a scathing email to her the husband's work & friends. The subject line "Tiger Woods/Jesse James/Mike Nilon," the actress wrote: "What do they have in common ... I found out today that MY husband of almost 9 yrs has been having an affair for 5 yrs with some slut in Chicago. I am devastated!!!! And I have been duped!! Our boys don't deserve this!"

To say she was angry is the understatement of the year. Unlike some women who constantly accept cheating from their husbands, this was. a deal breaker for the 45 year old actress. "Adultery is the ultimate deal-breaker for me. I would rather be alone than in a relationship that doesn’t honor me" I hear that girl! I love confident women that know their worth. Ladies if your man cheats, LEAVE..he will do it again.

South Africa's drama queen Khanyi Mbau releases new book

My, my, my have I waited for this day! The self proclaimed queen of bling vixen Khanyi Mbau is releasing her new book entitled "Bitch Please I'm Khanyi Mbau" She announced her decision to pen this autobiography a few years ago but has remained mum on the release date. Well, now we have one and it's August 9th. Some of y'all in States may not know who she is (think SA's version of Karrine Steffans) but girlfriend has led a very colorful life. She's been labeled by some as a conniving man stealing-goldigger-abused wife-slut. Ain't that mouthful? I can't wait to read it!

“I’ve been called a dumb gold-digger, someone who’s famous for nothing, who sleeps with old men and is a home-wrecker. It’s time for me to close the gold-digger chapter in my life and put things in perspective. I know there are people who’ve been wondering how a child with no brains, no education, has managed to stay relevant" says Khanyi

Prince Jackson releases damning text from Janet Jackson

Prince Jackson the oldest of MJ's children has has finally decided to speak out on the unbelievable family drama. This does not look good for Janet. In a tweet sent last night, Prince releases a salacious text from his Auntie Janet and reveals his side of the story. See below for his tweet and dramatic text:

"I would first like to start off this tweet by thanking the fans that have always stood by me and my family, my dad really appreciated your support and I still treasure it to this day. As I am sure everyone is well aware of the events that have been going on. I have been holding off on backing up my sister and her tweets avidly because I was waiting for the time to reveal my side.

Rapper /Actress Eve wears African inspired romper

I tell you what, Eve has been stepping up her fashion game lately and I LOVE it! The self acclaimed "pit bull in a skirt" wore this super cute African inspired romper in Philadelphia yesterday. Putting good work in, Eve spoke to over 150 young women at the Uniquely You Summit at the African American Museum about self discovery. I hope she told them to stay away from her ex- Stevie J! Just kidding :)

I'm not sure who the designer is but I am thinking it's Boxing Kitten. I adore their clothing, they make super cute African-esque apparel. I will keep you guys posted on who the designer is. What do you think of this look?

Where Are The Dark Skinned Pop Stars?

A few months ago, Forbes Magazine published a list of the world's most powerful 100 celebrities. In the realm of pop stars, the usual suspects such as  Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Beyonce all made appearances on the list. The power 100 celebrities landed on the Forbes list from their different revenue streams in music, TV, film, clothing & endorsement deals. Translation - being a pop star means big money and huge influence. While I am a fan of all the pop powerhouses I couldn't help but think.. where in the hell are the dark skinned pop stars?

Former Danity Kane singer Dawn Richardson cause quite sh!tstorm a few weeks ago when she talked about the difficulty of being a dark skinned woman in the music industry. She said "I represent for the brown girls because when you think of a sex symbol and a huge artist, most of the time it isn't the brown, darker girl". Now while some may point to Dawn's lackluster music, I think we can all agree that she has a point. The music industry has a very nasty habit of pushing lighter skin and ethnically ambiguous singers in our faces. 

Singers Rita Ora & Dawn Richards. Is color a factor in how successful they become?

Every now and then you will get singers like Jill Scott, Angie Stone and Erykah Badu that defy the beauty standards and achieve great success in their genres. But let's keep it all the way real, they are R&B singers and not pop stars. Notwithstanding the difference in genres the truth is they will probably never achieve the level of the fame/success/money/influence that the Beyonce's of the world have. Adding insult to injury is the fact that as light as Beyonce is, she's constantly being lightened in commercials & print ads and made to appear even lighter than she actually is. This is a problem people!

Would Beyonce be as successful as a dark skinned woman?

I blame all of us. Present company included. The public is to blame for allowing just one standard of beauty in the pop world. Pop phenomenon's don't create themselves, the public creates and maintains them. What does this say about us not only people but specifically black people? Do this really speak to the self hatred that we have regarding race within the black community? Are we still accepting "white folks" standards of beauty? Regardless of what the root cause is, we need to address the elephant in the room. Why aren't we outraged by this?

WHOA! Janet Jackson slaps niece Paris

Sh!t just got real in the Jackson household..

Words fail me in trying to describe the events that lead up superstar Janet Jackson slapping her niece- 14 year old Paris Jackson. This my friends, will be known as the slap heard around the world. By now, I am sure you have heard about the Paris Jackson twitter rants, Katherine Jackson being spotted in Arizona without contacting her grandkids and of course the dramatics events leading up to yesterday's altercation between Auntie Janet and Paris.  Well, things just got ugly. TMZ now has FULL details of the fight in California and they are reporting:

Sources who were there say two SUVs with Randy, Jermaine and Janet inside, followed a car driving Michael Jackson's 3 kids inside the gates. We're told Randy, Jermaine and Janet did not have authority to enter. Once on the grounds, we're told MJ's 3 siblings tried to strong-arm Paris, Prince and Blanket. Their mission was to get them in an SUV and take them to Arizona, where Katherine has been staying.Our sources say at one point Janet tried to grab a resistant Paris' cell phone, a scuffle ensued and Janet slapped the teenager, screaming, "You're a spoiled little bitch!" We're told Paris fired back with her own slap and told Janet, "This is our house. Not the Jackson family house. Get the f**k out!"


Whoa! I am sure there is more to this story, the truth will eventually come out. What do you guys think?

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending the 6th annual Global Fusion Festival in Philadelphia. With performances from singers Brandy, Elle Varner, Kendrick Lamar, Kenny Lattimore and Luke James the concert was one not to miss. The concert at Penn Plaza is part of the PECO Multicultural festival celebrating Philadelphia's Africa Diaspora, Hispanic, Caribbean and Asian cultures. And the best part of it all? It was FREE! The crowd of over 30,000 people mobbed Elle Varner as soon as she stepped off the stage creating a frenzy at the festival. By the way, did you know that Elle's family has Cape Verdian roots? Well hello my African sister :) I found this out plus more in my one on one interview with the J Records/Sony Music singer. Make sure you guys go cop her album on August 7th!

How much do I love B-Rocka?? Brandy has been a friend in my head since the early 1990's. I remember buying her album and listening to her hits "Baby", "Best Friend" and "Broken Hearted" for hours upon hours. Needless to say I was SUPER excited to see her bring it onstage. She performed all of her old hits plus new songs and had the crowd rocking. In her press conference backstage the very charismatic Brandy talked about promising Whitney Houston that she would dedicate her life to music. Answering questions from various members of press she also discussed having a solid family structure with "normal " friends and of course finding love with her beau Ryan Press.  Ryan was backstage and because he is from Philly, I know the show must have been extra special for the couple. How sweet! Her album is coming out October 2nd and I cant wait to go buy it!

NBA player marries Kenyan beauty

Dirk Nowitzki and his new bride Jessica Olsson got married in Kenya last week

NBA Basketball player Dirk Nowitzki finally put a ring on it!  According to numerous media outlets, the Mavericks player got married to  Dallas-based art gallery director Jessica Olsson. We don't know much about the Kenyan beauty but Dirk has been quoted in the press speaking highly of his  Boo saying:

Jessica is probably the best thing that happened to me this year. After the incidents in 2009, I never thought that I would [fall in love again] so quickly. She is a great woman, smart and intelligent. Now let’s see just how that develops over time with us. It feels great in any case, we wait for what will come of it.

Well what happened in 2009 you may ask? Allow me to fill you in. Dirk is no stranger to dating black women and in 2009 he dated Cristal Taylor a young lady who is currently in prison serving a five year sentence for old forgery and theft crimes. Yep, you read that correctly! The two had lived together when she got arrested and claimed to be pregnant with Dirk's child. It was later revealed that she wasn't pregnant at all but she did keep the $200,000 engagement ring he'd given her. 

Drama Honey! Well I am glad the story ended well for Dirk, congrats to the Nowitzki's!!

It's about time!!! Alicia Keys just chopped off all her hair and showed off a stunning new hairstyle in a recent Instagram pic. Honestly, I feel like she's been stuck in a style rut for a while with her hair and this style is exactly what she needed. She looks fab!! What do you think of her new look?

Yesterday not only marked the 94th birthday of South Africa's former President Nelson Mandela but it was also the North America launch of Madiba's 466/64 inspired clothing line. Can you believe that Mr. Mandela is 94?!? Living such a long life after what he's been through is such a blessing.

 I was on hand at the exclusive launch of 466/64 at the South African consulate to preview some of the hot threads from the fashion line. 

Lira is such a sweetheart! She remembered me from our interview over a year ago!

Sony Music songstress Lira was one of the special guests showing her support for the brand. The multi-platinum singer was wearing a beautiful 466/64 dress that was beyond gorgeous. She gave a poignant speech explaining her admiration for the clothing line saying  "Now I can wear a brand that makes me proud of where we come from as a people and where we are going"

When I wrote about this brand a few months ago, a few people seemed to inquire about where proceeds of the brand would go. Wayne Bebb CEO of Brand ID seemed to address those concerns head on citing that 7-9% of the brand's proceeds  go back to the 46664 foundation in South Africa. Folks, it is a business after all.  Albeit one with a purpose, but this a business nonetheless.

I want to know who the brave soul was that managed to get this picture. I was at this party, literally 2 feet away from Beyonce and her bodyguard Juluis was not playing around. He was scanning the room like a hawk to make sure no one took pictures of the diva. I cant even tell you how awesome it was to be that close to Blue Ivy's Mom but i couldn't all the way act like a stan, i was in an exclusive party..200 people maximum so I had to keep it together. Plus my phone died so it was pretty much a wrap after that. So what do you think of Bey's braids, hot or not?

When I interviewed Jada a few weeks ago she told me the family was visiting Africa this summer and they planned on hitting up South Africa if their schedule permitted. I know they were just in Ethopia a few days ago so I am wondering where they are on their way to now.

Blue Ivy's Mama reads "Michelle, thank you so much for every single thing that you do for us. I am proud to have my daughter grow up in a world where she has people like to you to look up to"

How u doing Wendy? It's no secret that I am a huge Wendy Williams fan. I have followed her from her days in radio to the TV superstar that she is today. Wendy is currently on vacation and she just posted a picture displaying her bikini body. You know what? I think she actually looks pretty good, never mind the tattoo...her swimsuit body is alright. Is Amber Rose Pregnant?

I came across these pictures of Kanye's ex Amber Rose and I couldn't help but notice that something was a little off. The model/hostess always rocks form-fitting dresses so seeing her in this loose and flowy number made me pause.

Until it hit me. Amber is probably pregnant! The dress was a hint but her hair is covered up as well so I'm guessing that she's stopped bleaching her blonde locks. I spy a baby on the way. Congrats to her and Wiz, what do you think?
