FAB EVENT: Jerseylicious Gatsby Launch Party

Ambiance at the party
Do you guys remember last year when I wrote about how I fell in love with reality show Jerseylicious while on vacation in South Africa? I just couldn't get enough of Gayle, Tracy, Olivia, Christy and the rest of the drama brewing over at the Gatsby salon.
From left to right- Gigi, Christy and Michelle
Fast forward to 2012 and last night I attended an invite only fĂȘte for the launch of salon owner Gayle Giacomo's new hair product line. The party was held at Drom Fragrances, a lovely open space close to the World Trade Center. As soon I walked in, I couldn't help but notice how fabulous everyone looked. Very Jerseylicious! Not to mention the overflowing champagne and bumping music were telltale signs that I was going to have a great time.
Makho with Gayle
I briefly chatted with Gayle and I can tell you that she is absolutely stunning in person!! Over 50 and looking absolutely divine, she looks better than most girls half her age! Gayle was dressed in a green dress, nude pumps and that signature red hair. As I mentioned above the party was in celebration of her new hair care line aptly titled Gatsby. I cant wait for you guys to try the voluminous hair products.
Makho chatting with Gayle's daughter Christy. I couldn't put my drink down it was that good!!
I also spoke to Gayle's daughter Christy at the party. She told me that she loves that the show has a following in South Africa and that she wishes to visit the country soon. But I doubt Christy will be going anywhere anytime soon, since she has big baby news!
Makho with Christy
How cute is she? Christy is expecting baby no. 2. I'm telling you pregnant women are killing it these days! Christy looks fantastic, how adorable is that baby bump?
Doria!!
Also spotted at the party was Doria. I love her personality, she is just too sweet!
From left to right: Gigi, Rebekah and Doria
My friend Rebekah got her hair did by Doria at the party using the Gatsby volumizing hair spray. Rebekah's hair was great before but the product they used in her hair really took her hair to new heights.

Cameras capturing everything
The party was taped as part of the TV show, so make sure you tune in to the Style Network for all the dramz.
Makho with Tracy
Well the party wouldn't be complete without an appearance from Tracy. Despite all her beef with Olivia on the show, Tracy is super sweet. If you watch the show you will remember how Tracy's dream was to attend fashion week and work as a hairstylist. She told me that not only has she worked at fashion week but she also attended this year as a guest. Good for her!

Check out more pics from the party:

Even Oprah wears the same thing twice!

I missed the Oscars last night, thanks to my cable company Time Warner completly standing me up, but that's another blog post on another day.

So early this morning I had to catch up on the haute Oscar fashion and I couldn't help but notice Miss Oprah's glittering gold dress, it looked mighty familiar. Turns out the dress she wore last night while receiving her Academy Award for outstanding film achievements of 2011 is a gown she's worn on the Cover of her mag O before!

I guess even billionaires wear the same thing twice! Oprah looks exquisite. There is nothing about this look that I don't love. Very age appropriate while still stylish and sexy. Go ahead O!

Speaking of Mama O, did you see her Jimmy Kimmel appearance? I thought it was hilarious, check it out below:

Actress Viola Davis scores big with natural 'do!

Actress Voila Davis looked all kinds of amazing at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon yesterday. I love the simplicity of the white fitted dress, barely there makeup and of course her glowing skin but what really caught my attention is her wonderful afro: her hair is giving it to me. I LOVE it! That hint of color really spices up the hairstyle. I say ditch the wigs Voila, this is all you! I hope she rocks that hair to the Oscars this weekend.

Miss Universe talks Black History Month

Makho with Miss Universe
A few weeks ago, I sat with Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes and talked at length about a number of topics (you can read the full interview in South Africa's Loocha Magazine March issue. Here's a sneak peak of some of what we discussed in the Loocha Magazine interview:

Tell me about the girls at the pageant, they are some of the most beautiful girls in the Universe. Are they catty?
Well, (Laughs) some girls are very competitive; they try and do anything to make you feel bad. During preliminaries, one girl said to me “You look like a doll” and I replied “Thank you”. And the girl continued “You look like a Barbie that I used to play with and I used to break her legs” Not missing a beat, I said to her “You look like a Barbie that I used to play with as well and I used to break her neck”.

SIDE-NOTE: Isn't that hilarious? Don't you just love her comeback?? That's my kinda Miss Universe!!

One of the subjects we discussed in the interview was the importance of black history month. As you know Leila is from Angola but peep the video below and find out why Leila thinks black history month is important.

Beyonce is dropping her baby weight by....

Now the world finally knows Beyonce's secret to losing those pesky pregnancy pounds. Reports say that the new mom has had her trainer move in to guide her through her two-a-day workouts.

Star Magazine claims that celeb trainer Marco Borges, is living in Beyonce and Jay-Z's home to whip the new mom into shape. The magazine claims that Beyonce has already lost 14 of the 40 pounds she gained while pregnant with daughter Blue Ivy Carter, who was born Jan. 7.
Beyonce and Jay at the Nets game
Beyonce and Marco are up at 5 a.m. for a two-hour workout, and they do it again at 5 p.m. They do a mix of cardio, Pilates, plyometrics, yoga and, of course, dance".Source's says that Beyonce is carefully watching what she eats and is "living on protein shakes, egg-white omelette's, pineapple chunks and lots of ice-cold water."

Star is not a reliable source so I question whether Marco is actually living with the couple but I do believe that Blue's Mom is definitely putting in work at the gym to get back to her pre-baby weight. She's always been disciplined about her diet so I bet she will bounce back in no time!

Musical Mismatch: The Trouble with Rihanna and Chris Brown's collaboration

News spread like wildfire this past Monday about music superstars Chris Brown and Rihanna’s  latest musical collaboration. The former couple released their latest remixes featuring each other and  Chris had people leaning in for a closer listen when he sang "Girl I wanna f*** you right now. Been a long time, I've been missing your body," on the duo's "Birthday Cake remix"
Rihanna and Chris Brown

All this wouldn’t have been shocking to the public if we didn’t have insight into the couple’s violent past. You will recall that a few years ago on Feb 2009 that Chris Brown beat Rihanna into a bloody pulp causing the young lovers to separate. The fight began when
Rihanna confronted Chris about a suspicious text from an ex-girlfriend. Rih then turned to face Chris in the car the couple was driving and he punched her in the left eye with his right hand. He then drove away in the vehicle and continued to punch her in the face with his right hand while steering the vehicle with his left hand. According to the notes taken by Detective De Shon Andrews, blood filled Rihanna's mouth. Brown, then 19, allegedly told her, "I'm going to beat the s--- out of you when we get home. You wait and see!”
Rihanna with Diane Sawyer

The “Only Girl In The World” singer later claimed that she decided to leave the relationship because in her words “When I realized that my selfish decision for love could result into some young girl getting killed, I could not be easy with that part,” she told ABC’s Diane Sawyer on “Good Morning America “I couldn’t be held responsible for telling them, ‘Go back.’ Even if Chris never hit me again, who’s to say that their boyfriend won’t? Who’s to say they won’t kill these girls?”

My, how quickly people change.
Chris Brown and Karreuche

Just last week Chris Brown was spotted at Rihanna’s birthday party  living it up with his ex-girlfriend. Chris even had the nerve to ask attendees to sign a confidentiality agreement to keep his attendance a secret. Why you ask? Because sources allege that Chris Brown and Rihanna were spotted boo’d up all night long. Now ain't that some issh? Adding insult to injury, it’s a well known fact that Chris is in a relationship with stylist and aspiring model Karrueche.  Sources allege that Karrueche isn’t in the least bit concerned about Rihanna and Chris’s relationship. According to Radar Online: Karrueche isn't stupid, and she has told friends that they have an open relationship. She never asks him about Rihanna, ever. Chris will take several days to call her back at times, and that is OK with Karrueche’

Confused yet? Yep this left me scratching my head as well.

I really don’t think it was a good idea for Chris Brown and Rihanna to release a song together, I’m all about forgives but this is just crossing the line.  I’m worried about what message this is sending to young women. Rihanna said she left the relationship because of her impressionable fans, was she thinking of them when she released this song with Chris? Let’s be clear I understand, that she has forgiven Chris and they have both spoke at length about moving on but why record and work together? Why even give the appearance of re-kindling their relationship? Celebrities are held to a different standard and that is the unfortunate bitter pill they swallow for having worldwide fame and success. Too whom much is give, much is required. Rihanna should have known better than to do this.

Tell me: What do you think of Rihanna and Chris Brown's collaborations?

Quote of the Day - Emma Watson

“I had journalists asking me if this meant I was coming out, if I was a lesbian now,” she tells the U.K.’s Independent. “That haircut did make me realize how subjective everyone’s opinion is. Some people were crazy for it and some people just thought I’d lost my [mind].”

I didn't realize that having a short hair cut made one a lesbian. Point well taken!  Of course I am being sarcastic, people can be so ignorant at times. For the record, I love Emma's short hair cut, she wears it well!

What Makho wore today 2.17.10

Hi All! Happy Friday to you,  wherever you are in the world! If you know me then you know that Friday is my FAVORITE day of the week!

I haven't done this in  while but I wanted to show you what outfit I wore today. I got a lot of compliments on my look so I thought I would post my outfit. I'm wearing a silk colorful dress from Zara, black silk shirt from Joe Fresh and a pair of black tights and blue shoes to finish off my look.I also have on a gold belt to really cinch my look together.
The dress is really a summer short sleeved dress but I put my shirt over it to give it the illusion of a skirt. Oh I forgot to mention o my most important accessory today:  my wig!!  I got this piece from a photo shoot that I did recently and I love it. I turned a bad hair day into a great wig day.

Bonus check out behind the scenes footage of my hair shoot. I'm in the middle with the short hair.

Mr. Ugly 2012 is back again!

Last year's winner in the middle
The things that happen in Zimbabwe never cease to amaze me. Case in point the Mr. Ugly 2012 pageant.

The contest seeks to find the ugliest man in Zimbabwe and will be held on March 28th at Pagomo Heights Leisure Centre in Beitbridge. The theme of this year's contest is the "Beauty of Ugliness". Isn't beauty subjective?  The judges are usually a panel of women and I honestly wonder what criteria they use to select their winner? What standards of beauty are we as Zimbabweans saying are "ugly"?

Austin Mbewe
Last year's winner Austin Mbewe walked away with a whooping $175 and a blanket after being deemed the ugliest man in Zimbabwe. Event organiser Lovemore Chonzi, a retired member of the Zimbabwe National Army band Lovemore Chonzi of Aerowise Entertainment said 30 men from all over the country have entered "The pageant is bigger and unique this year. We are open to many contestants from across the Southern African region."

Would you enter such a contest? Is beauty truly in the eye of the beholder?
