Exclusive Premiere: Beyonce’s “1+1″ Music Video

Hurricane Irene was not the only thing that had everyone abuzz on twitter this evening. King B, superstar Beyonce Knowles dropped her video for 1+1 from her latest album 4. The video features Bey in all her weave wearing glory and super skimpy outfits. Not sure I get the concept of the video but Mrs Carter looks hot..no I mean literally HOT. She is glistening in the video. To be honest 1+1 is my least fave song on the album, I cant wait until the other videos drop from her album.

Take a look at the video and let me know what you think!

P.S Ain't her weave/wig the bomb?

UPDATED: Is ABC's The Bachelor/Bachelorette Racist?

New Bachelor Ben Flajnik
Sigh! Today is just one of those days. ABC gets the sit your a** down award for this week!

A US tabloid is claiming that television network ABC’s plans on announcing that the next Bachelor will be 28-year-old California winemaker Ben Flajnik. Flajnik is not new to the franchise as he was dissed by Bachelorette Ashley Herbett this past summer.

I used to watch the show religiously but I started turning away because of one main reason.

Previous Bachelor Brad Womack
Will ABC ever cast a person of color as Bachelor or Bachelorette?

Jake Pavelka
As a regular watcher of the show I have noticed that they often times have a token person of color as a potential love interest but never in the lead position. In most cases they don't even have a person of color and usually have a totally white cast. Do Black, Indian, Asian & Latin people not date on prime time television? It's 2010 for crying out loud there's a black man running the White House. You mean to tell me a minority  can't get the lead role The Bachelor/Bachelorette house? C'mon now!

Now before you jump on my case, I understand that we (as in minorities) have a plethora of dating shows on cable. VH1 has done the minority community dirty by airing match making shows such as Flavor of Love, I Love New York and Basketball Wives. Granted these women sign up willingly for these shows and usually get a pretty penny to do it, truth is they usually perpetuate the worst stereotypes of people of color. Sure the women on ABC are catty as well but there is a different tone on those "family friendly shows". Why do people of having color have to be shown only at their worst in the reality dating sphere?

Host Chris Harrison has been quoted in the past saying that there are not a lot of people of color that apply for the show hence the lack of diversity. I call BS on that. There are tons of eligible singles that would be more than willingly to document their quest for love. My worst fear realized is that the country is just not ready to see an interracial romance on prime TV. ABC's last season finale of the show pulled in over 30 million viewers, so if folks are still watching, then why change?
Take note ABC, diversifying your cast of characters would only increase your audience.Until then, I will be channel surfing until I find a show that embraces all races.

Gallery of black women that are down with the swirl

I was reading Essence Magazine yesterday with actress Tracee Ellis Ross on the cover and there was an enlightening article about black women dating outside of their race. The author was making the argument that black women should not limit their quest for love by just dating black men.I wholeheartedly agree with the author, sista's don't be afraid of the swirl!

Why God dosen't care if you go to church every Sunday

Before I get started on this blog entry I MUST add a disclaimer. This post is not an attack on folks that attend church every Saturday or Sunday. Much respect to the people that attend diligently. While I applaud the loyalty, I have a few thoughts and reflections on flaws that I have witnessed with my own eyes within the church community.

Now that I have that out of the way, let's get "back to bidness".

I find that there is a misconception among people that go to church on a regular basis (not all of them) that by going faithfully this will earn them brownie points into heaven. Taking great pride in their attendance some of these folks hold their noses in the air and have a tendency to incessantly judge people outside of the church community.  Brings to mind what happened a few months ago when I posted a controversial article on Facebook. As you know New York is one of the few states that has legalized gay marriage. To me, this was a matter of human rights and saw it a good thing that gay and lesbian couples were afforded the same rights as their hetero counterparts. My goodness, the level of hate I received was appalling! People particularly in the church flipped out and used the bible as basis of hate and condemnation.

I believe in God wholeheartedly. Prayer has changed my life and I understand that God is a constant force in my life. Now, I know most people will jump on my back and use commandment that says remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy as a reason why attending church regularly is important. If this means going to church for you every Saturday or Sunday  then GREAT but for some it can also be used a day of peace, of family and of rest. Keeping the Sabbath involves much more than abstinence from labor, it requires the acknowledgment of the sacredness, the sanctity, of this day because of God’s deeds and declaration. What's as important is your behavior outside of the sanctuary.  Regardless of who you praise God, Allah, Buddha we should all seek to embody the spirit of love. In the words of Epictetus All religions must be tolerated... for every man must get to heaven in his own way

Treat people with respect and love. Love your neighbors as much as you love yourself. Accept people for who they truly are. Keep your relationship with God intact. Be a positive influence in the world. It is my belief that God doesn't care about you going to church every Sunday, what he really cares about who you are as a person.

Rihanna, Chris Tucker, Viola Davis - weekly magazine roundup

As an avid subway rider I usually have about 40 minutes each day to read either  a magazine, book or newspaper. This week however was all about the magazines, Check out the top 3 stories that we are buzzing about this week:

Songstress Rihanna has a great spread in Glamour Magazine. The pictures in the glossy are super classy and feminine. It's a nice look for RiRi. When asked on the single from her album Rated R that never was, check out what she said below:

GLAMOUR: Now all these impressionable young girls are singing your songs. Which do you hope they’re singing?
RIHANNA: “Fire Bomb” is one of my favorite songs. It kills me that it was never a single. It’s not the most positive message; it’s just honest. It’s about wanting revenge, because you just feel like no one can understand what you’re feeling unless you burn them the way they burned you. And that was at a time when I didn’t really want to be angry but I couldn’t help it, and “Fire Bomb” [released in 2009] was like that therapeutic song for me
Firebomb was one of my favorite songs from that album but I don't know if I want young girls singing the lyrics to this song. Find it on YouTube and listen to the lyrics then tell me if you want a 13 year old singing along.

Funny man Chris Tucker is on the cover of weekly publication Jet Magazine. The article chronicles Chris's comeback to the stage as he hits the road doing stand up again. What I found interesting was him breaking his silence on the death of his pal King of Pop Micheal Jackson.
Out of respect for my friend and his family, I didn't think it was appropriate to comment because it wasn't about me: besides I was in mourning.  I loved him dearly and was truly blessed to have spent time with my idol and work with him. He was a modern day King. He used to call me Christmas, He'd say 'Christmas, you're pretty funny'. When I met him I barely heard a word he said because I just couldn't believe I was sitting in front of him.

There is a lot of Oscar buzz surrounding The Help actress Viola Davis. I read the book so I cant wait to check out the movie, hope it lives up to the hype. Stay tuned for my review. While reading the Essence spread I found out that Hattie McDaniel, Juanita Moore, Diahann Carroll, Alfre Woodard and Oprah Winfrey have all gotten nominations for playing domestics. Wouldn't that be something if Viola was nominated for playing a maid in 2011. Funny how things change but still remain the same.
Thoughts on the weekly mag round-up?

Is this Nivea ad racist? - UPDATED!

Well well what do we have here.

Nivea is in hot water for a series of print ads they created for a new line of men's skincare. The ad features a neatly dressed black man throwing away scraggly pre-Nivea face. Seems crazy to me but I need your opinion, weigh in folks.  Is this ad racist or is it just an unfortunate coincidence?

While the jury is still out on this, I can tell you for sure that somebody is getting fired for this here hot mess!

Thoughts?

Updated: Nivea has an issued an apology saying:

"Thank you for caring enough to give us your feedback about the recent 'Re-civilized' NIVEA FOR MEN ad. This ad was inappropriate and offensive. It was never our intention to offend anyone, and for this we are deeply sorry. This ad will never be used again. Diversity and equal opportunity are crucial values of our company."

Carol's Daughter event in Harlem

I usually make the trek to Harlem about once a year since it's soooo far from where I live. Last night was the exception though. A good way to lure me uptown is to have an event with complimentary beverages, it's a no brainer. I'm there!

This awesome event was created by Jones Magazine & the Diva Lounge to help celebrate the Macedemia Collection a new line of styling products from Carol's Daughter. Lisa Price the founder of Carol's Daughter was allegedly there, but I didn't get a chance to see her. To say she has done well for herself is the understatement of a lifetime. I'm sure she is rolling in dough. Good for her!

As soon as I walked into the store I was overwhelmed in a pleasant way - by the aroma in the store. Turns out it was orange ambrosia pictured above so I just had to purchase the shower gel. Guests were also given not only champagne but also a soufflé (the lotion/creme) of Orange Ambrosia. It smells so good!

Guests mingling in the store
After the event, my friend and I headed to popular eatery Red Rooster in Harlem and it was poppin. We waited about an hour to get seated but it was totally worth it. The seafood platter was just downright delicious!

Shout out to Diva Lounge for the event. Cant wait until the next one!

Quote of the Day- Beyonce

"The second coming of Michael Jackson" according to her hubby Jay-Z is gracing the cover of the Sept issue of In Style Magazine. Songstress Beyonce Knowles looks super cute as usual. The Grammy winning singer and actress had this to say about having children:

"I have no regrets because my job kept me focused. When you're young --18 or 19 -- you have the energy and drive. That's the time to work as hard as you can. Now I'm a woman, and because I gave it my all, I can focus on my marriage. I can decide I want to have kids. I can be the mother I want to be and dedicate myself to my children."

Interesting! I remember a few months ago Mrs Carter alluding to the fact that she will have children by the time she's 40. She has yet to even turn 30. Take your time B,no need to rush. Kids are around for a lifetime.

What's your take on open marriages?

Singer Jill Singer sparked a twitter debate a few days ago after publicly pondering her stance on open relationships. The soul songstress says "What do you think about open relationships? Been considering. Many friends are making it work. Not sure if I'm that girl but not sure if I'm not. Sometimes there's an understanding that nobody else gets."

Chilli from TLC also chimed in and countered Jilly's argument saying ""Hell naw to open relationships!!!"

The definition of an open relationship is when you and your partner are allowed to have trysts(romantic or sexual) with people outside of your union. Your Facebook relationship status would be complicated in this scenario. An open relationship is not to be confused with polygamy. In the polygamous scenario you have many wives but in an open relationship you have one wife and possible many girlfriends or side chicks.

Actor Ossie Davis had this to say about his open marriage to actress Ruby Dee
Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee
It occurred to us, from observation and reasoning, that extramarital sex was not what really destroyed marriages, but rather the lies and deception that invariably accompanied it -- that was the culprit.

So we decided to give ourselves permission to sleep with other partners if we wished -- as long as what we did was honest as well as private, and that neither of us exposed the family to scandal or disease. We had to be discreet and, if the word can be apt, honorable in our behavior, both to ourselves, to whomever else might be involved, and most of all, to the family. And for the most part, we were

I can see some of you rolling your eyes as you are reading this. You are probably thinking this is some Hollwood issh, people in real life don't do stuff like this. I'm not so sure. How many relationships do you know of where the man or woman is constantly cheating on their partner? They break up to makeup and the lack of trust is completely destroyed. Perhaps there is some validity in the stance that everyone can't be in committed relationships. Some people for whatever reason (physically, sexually, emotionally) can not be with just one person. Would it really be so bad if a couple agreed to an open relationship with an open line of communication and trust?

I will confess: this open marriage line of thinking is not for me. No ma'am, I couldn't do it, I am one man type a girl. However I don't knock it for other folks. If it works for you and yours, who am I to knock it?Ossie and Ruby were married for 57 years granted they later changed their mind about open relationships they made it work.

So what are your thoughts? Would you consider an open marriage?
